After the less-than-stellar spring we've experienced, it's hard to believe the unofficial first weekend of summer is practically here -- the good news is the weather is supposed to be lovely. In the midst of the long-awaited yardwork, backyard barbecues and other family events, it's also an opportunity to stop and celebrate Memorial Day by honoring those who have selflessly served our country.
On Monday, May 26, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion will once again sponsor the annual Memorial Day event at the Veterans' Memorial Amphitheater in Wolfe Park. The commemorative service will begin at 11 a.m. with the flag raising scheduled to take place at noon. This event is free and open to the public.
