Every summer over Father’s Day weekend, the St. Louis Park community comes together to celebrate with food, music and fun. Whether it’s the annual business expo in Wolfe Park or the special activities for the little ones, Parktacular has events that “speak to everyone,” says event president Amy Sundem.
The weekend kicks off with A Night in Manhattan Dinner and Dance at the Marriott Hotel on June 16. The block party rocks the town on Friday night, featuring Prince tribute band Chase and Ovation, with Park High alum Tommy Chase on lead vocals. After watching the band perform, Sundem knew that it would be the perfect fit for the party that brings the whole city together.
The popular Grand Day Parade will take place on June 18 at noon. “Everyone goes to that parade, and I would say that’s what people look forward to most,” says Sundem. Saturday is the main day of events, with a range of activities throughout the day. Kids (and their grown-ups) can join the fishing clinic in the morning, catch candy at the parade at noon and watch a parkour performance in the afternoon. The weekend ends with a Father’s Day waffle brunch and a community faith service on Sunday.
This is Sundem’s first year as Parktacular president, after serving four years as vice president, and she is looking forward to new and exciting developments in the years to come. For now, she’s hoping for “a well-attended event with good weather.”
