Picture City South: Lucy

Local photographer likes the light (and the cat) right at her front door.

Photographer Jo Davis writes about her photo “Lucy” which won first place in the photo contest’s “Pets” category:

“I’ve loved photography since I was a little girl and have always been fascinated with capturing the moments of life. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I spent more time getting to know how a camera works and really devoted myself to it after having my daughter. While Lucy gets her picture taken plenty, my daughter is my number one model.

“This picture was taken by our front door. It’s a favorite place to take pictures as the light is usually flattering and diffused. I’m working on a 365 photography project, and I can often open this door and Lucy and my daughter will naturally navigate to it making it easy for me to capture them in the perfect light.

“As far as Lucy goes, you could say that she is a bit moody—super loving one minute and then upset at you for something the next. Some cats are lap cats, but she’s a chest cat—she has to get as close as possible to you to get her loving. When she’s not trying to get love from you, she’s usually shredding a perfectly good roll of toilet paper.”
