Uptown’s Cassondra Bertrand delivers an affordable approach to skin care.

If you’re in need of some pampering after a long, cold winter, look to Spa Oro Blanco, run by Cassondra Bertrand in buzzing Uptown. Bertrand opened Spa Oro Blanco three years ago after being an aesthetician for four years on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. While Bertrand is currently the only practitioner at the spa, she’s hoping to add more staff as she gets closer to her business’s five-year mark.

Spa Oro Blanco offers what you won’t find at many spas: lower prices and one-on-one treatment. Microderm abrasions (treatments that “exfoliate and brighten to reveal younger looking skin,” according to her website) are Bertrand’s most popular service. They go for $150 at most spas; she offers them for $79. If you’re a teen struggling with acne, or just need a little treat for yourself, facials are $69.

Bertrand trained at the Aveda Institute, giving her a wealth of knowledge on all things skin care, and she’s willing to dish out advice.

For teens and people in their 20s, Bertrand recommends a spa visit every four–to–eight weeks for a facial. As for follow-up skin care at home, she says common drugstore products won’t cut it. Medical-grade serums and face washes are the best way to get fresh, clear skin.

If you’re in your 30s, Bertrand notes she starts seeing larger pores and sun damage. For pores, Bertrand recommends the microderm abrasion. If you have sun damage, Bertrand suggests a chemical peel. These are also the services she advocates for people in their 40s and up.
