Music of the Night - and Day

Enjoy free concerts and fireworks in the Park

Finally, summer seems to have arrived – if you subscribe to the notion that the arrival of the Fourth of July means summer is half over, I would like to encourage you to table that thought for 2013.  Warm nights, longer light and later bedtimes all mean that an outdoor concert is just the thing for some family fun; there are plenty of opportunities for music in the Park during the next few days alone. First, let’s talk about the Fourth. Aquila Park is once again the place to be. Enjoy the rock and roll sounds of Stevie and the Table Rockers from 7- 9:30 p.m. There will be concessions and vendors all gearing up for the big event at 10 p.m. – the fireworks.  Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and enjoy the holiday with friends and neighbors. And while your pup is certainly part of the family and leashed dogs are allowed in the park, you might want to leave Murphy behind since fireworks can be a noisy proposition for lots of dogs. (Rain date is July 5). Don’t put that blanket and picnic basket away just yet. On July 10, the Shops at West End and Creative Kidstuff will be rocking the block with a free family concert by the Heebie Jeebies from 11 a.m. to noon as part of their Summer Concert Series. (Don’t forget – the Okee Dokee Brothers will bring their Grammy award winning sounds to the Shops at West End on July 17). During the evening on July 10, head over to Wolfe Park for blues and Zydeco favorites, the Everett Smithson Band, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is another free concert – and from 6:30-7 p.m., you can even take part in some free Zydeco dance lessons. Wow them at that next wedding reception. Savor these summer days in and around St. Louis Park with your family and friends.
