Participate in the Extreme Picnic Challenge on July 13; get ready for Minnesota Made in August

To be or not to be… a winner in the Extreme Picnic Challenge. Well, that’s up to you and whether or not you have the creative chops (or the delicious pork chops) to enter into this spirited competition on Saturday, July 13 prior to a performance of Shakespeare’s As You Like It by the Public Theater of Minnesota at Veteran’s Memorial Amphitheater in Wolfe Park.      Sponsored by Byerly’s, the Challenge – now in its second year -- has several categories ripe for your creative prowess including Best Americana Traditional Picnic, Most Innovative Food, Best Costumed Picnic Party and  Most Artistic Presentation. There's even a Best Deli Picnic category, for as PTM event organizers say, “We know you’re busy”. (Just jazz up those plastic containers).  Young picnic pros can even get involved – there are categories for Best Kid Created Picnic (ages 5-14) and Best Teen Created Picnic (ages 15-18).      Picnic set-up begins at 6:30 p.m., judging starts at 7:15 p.m. and the winners will be announced during the show’s intermission.  More information about the performance and the picnic competition is available at theptmn.org      Here’s another fun summer St. Louis Park event to put on your calendar for next month. “You Betcha!  Minnesota Made Festival – Retro Edition” will take place on Saturday, August 17 at the Shops at West End. Gates open at noon – the day and evening long event features live music (including a performance by Boogie Wonderland), a classic car show, food trucks, beverages and even a loon calling contest!  Admission is $10 per person; active military members and veterans get in free with a military I.D.  Proceeds benefit Guitars for Vets and the Public School Music Education program.  For more details, visit shopsatwestend.com
