Fire Building

Knowing how to build a fire in woods could be a life-saving skill, which is a good reason to sign up for this fun and informative lesson. Westwood Hills naturalists will discuss different types of fires to build and the materials and techniques are required to make a successful fire. After you’ve built your own fire, enjoy roasting marshmallows and making hot chocolate. Dress for the weather: Remember, you’ll be building your own heat source. Ages 5 and up (children must pay and be accompanied by an adult). 

Spring Open House

By now, March is almost over, so hoping for spring isn’t unreasonable, even in Minnesota. If you’ve got a case of spring fever, bring the whole family to Westwood Hills Nature Center to celebrate the new season. Hunt down the “Signs of Spring” in a fun scavenger hunt, plant seeds that you can take home and watch grow, collect sap to boil into maple syrup, and more.

HERO, a new Minnetonka-based pet product company is launching a line of “HERO” products to raise awareness, money and hope for rescue dogs.  The company, which will donate a percentage of profits to rescue dog causes, is launching the brand through a crowdfunding IndieGoGo campaign that kicks off February 22 at Bubbly Paws at Excelsior and Grand.
