We tracked down four foodie influencers in the City South area for a Q+A that will have you craving all things food. Below is our interview with Sidney Schultz. Read the others here: Elle Yorobe, Shawn Rodgers and Christina Stevens.
How did you start your foodie journey?
My family and I would eat out all the time growing up. They also cook a lot and are extremely talented at it. So, I developed an appreciation for both the look and taste of food at an early age. I had a personal Instagram for a while, but when I decided to post primarily food pics (around three years ago) I created a separate account just for that.
What do you wish people knew about being a foodie influencer?
How many incredible people are in the foodie community and how close-knit it is. I started my Instagram just thinking that I wanted to show how beautiful, fun and creative food can be and I still love doing that. But the best part now is all the friends I’ve made and people I’ve met as a result of starting my Instagram. We all come together for our love of food but end up bonding over so much more. It’s a very welcoming community.
Which food trend are you loving right now?
Minneapolis has a great food scene, but I love that we keep seeing more and more authentic multicultural restaurants. Some of my favorites this year are Dulceria, PinKU, Soul Bowl and Guavas Cuban Cafe. I’m also really looking forward to Sean Sherman’s restaurant to open at the new riverfront pavilion called Water Works.
Do you cook often too?
Do eggs count? Then a couple times a week. Otherwise pretty rarely. That’s partly because I’m lazy and partly because I don’t think my food will be even half as good as what I can get at the restaurants around me.
What living people would you invite to your ideal dinner party?
For sure Chrissy Teigen … she’s hilarious, smart, witty, compassionate and she can cook. And then I suppose John Legend and their kids could come along. John can sing for us.
What are your guilty food pleasures?
Mac and cheese, cheese by itself, mashed potatoes, fries, and bagels & cream cheese. I really like carbs.
What has been the greatest meal of your life?
Martina. I went there for dinner a couple months ago and tried the scallops, brussels sprout salad, cacio e pepe, halibut, octopus, galette and flourless chocolate cake and the meal was heavenly.
Favorite restaurant in City South?
If I could only pick one, it would be Martina, but I do love Broders, Hola Arepa, Ramen Kazama, Galactic Pizza, Meyvn, The Lynhall and Origami.
