Max’s in St Louis Park is serious about its high-quality, uniquely designed jewelry. Owner Ellen Hertz is equally proud of the casual and inviting atmosphere. “Jewelry stores can be intimidating, but I think Max’s feels like the bar from Cheers–we know your name and are here to help.” Hertz’s mission to educate customers and commitment to fair business practices, along with a unique selection of jewelry designers, has made Max’s a national leader in the industry. The JCK (Jewelers’ Circular Keystone) Design Center recently honored Max’s as one of the top 10 designer stores in the nation, placing sixth on the list of 50 jewelry stores recognized with this prestigious award. Dedicated to sourcing the finest quality, hand-crafted jewelry for her store, Hertz chooses each designer personally, often meeting them in person to learn his or her story. “I like to be able to share the artist’s back stories with my customers – their prior lives and careers – in order to understand their source of inspiration.” She looks not only at the quality of the jewelry, but the artist’s principles and values. Nothing in the store is mass-produced; Hertz ensures that the artists she chooses truly make the jewelry she sells. As the exclusive Twin Cities retailer of a number of well-known artists, Max’s showcases pieces not found anywhere else in Minnesota. Hertz constantly seeks new and unique designers, with her latest addition, Alex Sepkus, arriving in September. Continuing its commitment to education and community involvement, Max’s will be hosting a wedding party September 20—October 6. This event features bridal-specific jewelry, trunk shows by Todd Reed and Anne Sportun, cake and wine tasting with sommelier Leslie Miller and floral ideas from Art & Flowers.
